Sometimes piercings just go bad. They don’t heal, they reject, they get infected, they get pulled out, and more. Sometimes this is due to poor piercing, other times due to poor aftercare of the piercings, and sometimes your body just doesn’t want something in it. Here are the top ten “Piercings Gone Bad” that we found on one of our favorite body mod blogs, ModBlog. We’re not posting the pictures here because they’re pretty graphic, so follow the links if you think your stomach is strong enough to see them in their full color glory.

Why You Should Never Get Pierced with a Gun
What’s wrong with getting your ear pierced with a gun? People do it all the time right? Guns are terrible piercing tools and nobody in their right mind should ever use one. This girl had her friend pierce her cartilage with a gun and soon developed a terrible infection that doctors say likely came from someone else’s tissue on the gun. Her ear ended up liquefying and necrotic tissue had to be scraped out. When it was finally healed, cosmetic surgery was required to return it to a “normal” state.

Invisible Industrial
An industrial causes some distinctive keloids after it was ripped out. If only there was a LOLBodyMods…

Fear of Rejection
If your piercing looks like this, take it out. Your body is rejecting it and you need to respect that. An eyebrow piercing and a navel piercing that are held in only by the tiniest amount of skin.

Accidental Implant
Please make sure the jewelry you put in is big enough for the piercing, unless you want to end up with a really bad “transdermal”. This eyebrow piercing was too short and one of beads was pulled into the skin.

Ripped Septum Piercing
Septum piercings do get ripped out. I’m sure it hurts. The general consensus is that this septum piercing was probably too low anyways, but needless to say this poor guy is missing a chunk of his nose now. And he could stand to blow it once in a awhile.

Chain link piercing
This 15 year old kid wins the Stupid Award. In what must have been an attempt to look cooler in his emo/scenester MySpace photos, he thought he could use chain links to pierce his lip and septum. Technically it wasn’t much of a piercing but more of a crushing of skin when he used pliers to crimp the chain links into his lips and nose. Needless to say, it didn’t heal very well and he had to get them removed by a professional.

Massive Keloid

Madonna Volcano
Want to see a gross and disgusting Madonna piercing? This one was a result of an employer that had a “no piercings” rule at work so the person had to remove the piercing every time they went in, which of course can lead to irritation, infection, and all sorts of fun. Ick.

Ear Stretching Gone Bad
If you’re eating, don’t click on this one. This is an example of what can happen if you try to stretch your eyes too quickly. This girl didn’t stop when her lobes started thinning out and eventually it tore away from her head and was left dangling. The good news was that a cosmetic surgeon was able to sew the lobe back to her head for $2000.

Ear Explosion
Even I can’t look at this one for more than a second or two at a time. Another example of what happens if you try to force your ears to gauge up too quickly. Look at all the crusty. Wow.

The moral of the story? Go to a professional piercing who knows what they’re doing. Feel comfortable grilling them on their procedures. Any good piercing will be happy to brag about how well they run their shop. If your piercing is starting to look abnormal, have someone take a look at it. Nobody thinks an swollen, infected, oozing piercing looks good.

Oh, and if this is your piercer, find a new one asap.

    Personally I don't see why you ladies and gents are so grossed out, it's simply a curiousity, I think it's fairly sad these children are so worried about conforming and being "different" like everyone else, that they're deciding to press their body too quickly or use unsanitized foreign objects in themselves. But no matter how often you tell them otherwise, it will never happen to them of course! haha. Otherwise the page was great.

    Those...were just gross. I got my lip done last Saturday and it's doing fine. A little red, not so swollen anymore, doesn't really hurt. Cleaning it properly. God I hope it doesn't get like that. Ew. Haha!

    dude i know just how it feels to have a ring jus dissapear into ur body.
    I was sooo scarred when they had to cut out my belly button ring and then told me that they were sorry that it happened and they thay will see if i can get it done in 2 months and im like nahhh but i am getting it done but with a differnet piercer. and i also got my cartalige done and they screwed that up to ive had it done for literly 6 months and it to this day is infected.

    ive done my lip a few times myself but i had to take it out because i went to a Christian school, so when i moved to public school i started going crazy with my piercings....and to think i was just about to do my tounge......

    alright, I have a question to ask...a couple of years back, i pierced my own belly button, kinda stupid i know, but it worked, and i had a ring there for almost a couple of months, but then i removed it and it healed...there was always a stiff part where the piercing was. ( I pierced it with one of those really thick needles...but it wasn't hollow or anything..) A week ago, I did it again because I missed my piercing, I expected it to be easy this time around, but I wasnt that lucky...anyway, as soon as i pierced it, and washed it out with salt+water cleaned it out except because my hands were a bit sweaty ...it wasnt as steady as Id hoped. and I ended up with a bit of a big bruise on the inside of my navel. Internal bleeding or sth. Anyway, as soon as i cleaned it out, i put some medicine on and left it to heal, which it is already...Could it be serious? the swelling has gone down and it feels like it did before...Im wondering if pus could be trapped in the middle...and if the stiffness is normal.

    These photos are pretty gruesome, it makes me wonder why people don't get things seen to as soon as they notice an abnormality. Also, people react to pain in different ways; some just have a really low pain threshold. I have a few piercings and although none have hurt me, I have friends who have been in a lot of pain with the same piercings.

    OMG!!!!! im sorry but you are a big wimp!!!!! was this done by a perfessional?? those pics scare me!!!!!!! im so sorry for ppl who had to get surgery cause they didnt get them done by perfessionals. i think claires only does ears peirsing but im not so sure. because claires is really good place but i thing it is earpeircing not tung or belly button or any of those places but im so sorry for you ppl who had to get surgery!!!!!!!!

    ok people i have ten piercings 4 in one ear 3 in the other an my nose tongue belly button an 2 more on ther way none of mine went bad an i did most of them myself ok so yea stop winning

    If that guy was in that much pain from the tongue piercing, the piercer must of done something seriously wrong. I can hardly tolerate pain and it didn't even hurt at all, that guy was going red. And I've never seen a piercer pierce a tongue inside the mouth :|

    Was that guy in the video seriously so stupid to let that person, 1. Pierce his tongue in his mouth. 2. Use that funny looking needle thing. 3. Keep the rings on their fingers. Seriously? Wow. I am glad that I did all of my research before gettting mine done, and going to a place that was both clean and cheap and professional. Simply amazing. And all of those photos, were just of children being completely ignorant. Why oh WHY would you pierce you lip / septum with a chain link? AND THEN the mom try to cut it out with scissors? OMG. Proof that stupid people should not procreate.

    well i got my belly button pierced when i was 12 and i just got my industrial like a couple of days ago, i love it. and it didnt hurt that bad at all, although i hope nothing like those pictures happen to my piercings! that would be awful, but i take very good care of my piercings :]

    I think that the pictures that I just looked at were the grossest piercings gone bad that I have ever seen. Parents need to start listening to there kids and mabye they woulden't do such things to them selves. That is what happens to people that don't keep there body piercings clean.
    People wake up and realize that you have to take care of you body. :) It is really sad that almost all of the pictures of the bad piercings are of kids under 18.
  • Those pictures are truely disturbing. Unfortunately, people let things go way too far before they decided to seek any sort of help. Your body is the most important thing and if you don't take care of it then you could end up with problems like these. Always do your homework when selecting a piercer...and please don't attempt to pierce yourself :)
